Scott Alexander attended art school in the ’90s and worked as an art director, creative director, and photographer for 20+ years before transitioning to full-time woodturning in 2020. He specializes in green to finished bowls, vases, and wall sculptures. An expert on the tools and techniques used and needed to turn and dry green bowls and various pieces successfully. He focuses more on sculpting shapes in an artful manner than purely driven by technique.

  • Techniques for turning green wood to get desired results.
  • Tool sharpening- proper techniques used to create standard and custom grinds
  • Designing while on the lathe- exploring shapes, finding the right technique to accomplish your goal, and taking into consideration how a piece will move in the drying process.
  • Using dividers to lay out ideas on a workpiece
  • Drying green wood - exploring several options for drying turned pieces to achieve desired results
